The Sri Lanka Association for Commonwealth Literature and Language Studies (SLACLALS) is a chapter of the Association for Commonwealth Literature and Language Studies (ACLALS). ACLALS was started in 1964 with a conference at the University of Leeds and was officially accredited to the Commonwealth in 2005. The Sri Lanka branch of ACLALS, SLACLALS was created in the late 1970s under the guidance of Ashley Halpé who was Professor in English at the University of Ceylon at the time. The aims of SLACLALS shall be to encourage the study of and research into Commonwealth Literature and Language with special reference to Sri Lanka and to support creative writing in English. SLACLALS has held several conferences and seminars over the years in Peradeniya, Colombo, Kandy, and Sabaragamuwa. The Triennial General Meeting was held on 22nd July 2023 from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm IST at Water's Edge Hotel Colombo. See the newly-elected committee. Conference programme and more details
